It has been estimated that the latest credentials file contains entries from a total of 4,000 databases of stolen credentials, covering at least two decades from 2021 through 2024.

As per the report by Forbes, A hacker alias “ObamaCare” has leaked over 995 crore passwords, it was divulged under a dataset called Rockyou2024. The alarming data report was posted on Thursday as it is considered the biggest password data breach ever.

According to Cybernews,  this is not the first time that Rockyou2024 has exposed passwords. RockYou2024 is part of a data breach that could potentially be used to access unauthorised online accounts and carry out brute-force attacks. This breach occurred due to a combination of old and new databases and has tried in this malpractice several times before.

Security researchers from Cybernews say they have found 9,948,575,739 unique passwords in the probe which is in plaintext format. An earlier credentials database named RockyYou 2021 is comprised of the compilation of new RockyYou2024 which featured 8.4 billion passwords adding over 1.5 billion new passwords to the current database. It has been estimated that the latest credentials file contains entries from a total of 4,000 databases of stolen credentials, covering at least two decades from the year 2021 to 2024.

This data breach further leads to criminal offences gathering ransom and other activities through credential stuffing attacks which stands as one of the palmy methods to gain access and garner details to service and system. A few days back another transgress was alleged against Bharti Airtel by an X handle named Dark Web Informer who tracks scams and shares them on social media platforms

. The post stated that a hacker with a fictional name xenZen tried to sell the database having details of around 37.5 crore Airtel customers in India. The database includes mobile number, date of birth, Aadhaar number guardian name, and email ID.
