Meta, owned by Mark Zuckerberg held its annual Connect 2024 event on Wednesday (September 25) unveiling the new and budget-friendly Quest 3S headset and a slew of new AI features powered by Meta’s latest Llama 3.2 model. Zuckerberg announced during the keynote that the new Quest 3S is priced at $299.99 (Approx. Rs 25,108.50) added with a free copy of the Batman Arkham: Shadow video game.

Mark Zuckerberg also revealed that the platform is set to add several new AI features including Live Translation to its Ray-Ban smart glasses that will possess the ability to remember conversations. He also talked about the debut consumer-grade full holographic AR glasses called Orion. He demonstrated the new AI features such as Meta AI with Voice, lip-syncing and automatic dubbing which were announced at the annual developer summit.

Meta has unveiled its latest innovations at Connect 2024, the new Meta Quest 3S VR headset which is a more affordable version of Quest 3 with 128/256 GB storage. Meta also introduced Llama 3.2, a powerful AI model available globally (except EU) which enables smarter interactions on devices and the company’s Ray-Ban smart glasses got AI upgrades that may allow users to:

  • Ask follow-up questions without saying “Hey Meta”
  • Recognize objects without voice commands
  • Remember details like parking spots
  • Scan QR codes and make calls
  • Translate in real-time

Also, the new Orion weighs under 100 grams with a sharp display and wireless design and these advancements demonstrate Meta’s focus on accessible al;ong with cutting-edge technology Meta’s Orion glasses come with a new display architecture made out of silicon-carbide holograms in different depths and sizes. The voice will have AI in it along with hand-tracking, eye-tracking, and a neural interface. This neutral interface will allow you to control your needs with just brain signals.

Zuckerberg announced that the company’s Ray-Ban smart glasses now partner with “Be My Eyes” to aid visually-impaired people that describing their surroundings and provide real-time assistance. Additionally, the smart glasses offer Live Translation, integrate with Spotify and Amazon Music and feature AI-powered memory aids and multi-modal video AI.

Ray-Ban Meta smart glass

He said that the Meta‘s Llama 3.2 model debuts enabling AI voice mode with celebrity voices open-source and multi-modal capabilities and availability everywhere except the EU. Meta AI has reached 500 million monthly active users offering unlimited access to AI models integrated into Meta products and advanced AI assistant capabilities and the Quest 3S will start shipping on October 15. The Meta Connect event  is scheduled for September 25 and 26 (a 2-day event) and has been expected to feature more products equipped with AI capabilities.
