Apple launched the second generation of the HomePod speaker in January 2023. Even if the new models are not expected for at least a year, there are reports that the Apple“s next-generation model might be equipped with an LCD screen. Images of the HomePod prototype, featuring an LCD screen, are currently circulating on the web.

An Apple prototype collector, named Kosutami, shared the HomePod prototype images on October 21. Those images show that there is a large touchscreen sensor at the top of the HomePod. Kosutami also said that the design of the shell is similar to that of the second-generation HomePod. 9to5Mac reported that this prototype, codenamed B720, is being actively worked on by Apple. The report also reveals that the new product is in an advanced stage of development, and the tech giant may launch it in the near future.

The next-gen HomePod will show some important notifications, including the ability to answer calls and respond to messages, according to 9to5Mac. However, Apple has not provided any official statement regarding this product. Apple discontinued its original HomePod in March 2021, and in January 2023, Apple unveiled the HomePod 2. In between, Apple also introduced the HomePod Mini, which continues to be on sale. Apple claims that the HomePod 2, priced at Rs 32,900, offers better audio quality and deeper integration into the smart home. According to Fortune Market Insights, the global smart speaker market size was USD 7.8 billion in 2020 and is projected to surge to $34.24 billion in 2028. The demand for smart speakers has increased in recent years due to the growth of the smart home concept.
