Oppo has launched a prototype of its new generation of assisted reality glasses, Oppo Air Glass 3, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024. The Air Glass 3 XR is the successor to the Air Glass 2. Notably, the Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer has integrated its AndesGPT AI assistant into the Air Glass 3.
The company said that they have launched this gadget to look into the possibility of AI technology based on cross-device collaboration between XR devices and smartphones. The OPPO Air Glass 3, which weighs 50 grams, has a peak eye brightness of more than 1,000 nits. The smart glass also supports touch interaction, which can be used to control functions including music playback, voice calls, information display, and color image browsing.

“Thanks to the access to OPPO AndesGPT provided by the Air Glass APP on the smartphone, users only need to lightly press the temple of the OPPO Air Glass 3 to activate the AI voice assistant and begin performing a range of tasks,” said Oppo in its statement. AndesGPT is Oppo”s in-house, self-trained large language model (LLM). The LLM has three distinct layers and seven billion parameters. Oppo”s latest move indicates that generative AI has started to show up in everything.
The glasses are also equipped with reverse sound field technology, an open acoustic design with four microphones. Oppo claims that the smart glass also delivers high audio quality and enhanced privacy protection. The company has not yet revealed the pricing or a potential release date for the Air Glass 3.
At the same time, Oppo also mentioned in its statement that within the second quarter of 2024, the OPPO Reno11 Series and the OPPO Find N3 in global markets will be equipped with numerous generative AI features. It is worth mentioning that the company has filed over 3,160 global patents to AI as of December 31, 2023.
