OpenAI made a surprising move recently, as they are making the generative artificial intelligence (gen AI)-powered ChatGPT accessible to everyone, even those who do not have an OpenAI account. The AI giant”s move is regarded as a solid step toward providing AI technology to everyone.
The ChatGPT creator announced that they are making it easier for people to experience the benefits of AI without needing to sign up. OpenAI mentioned in its blog post on April 1 that more than 100 million people across 185 countries use ChatGPT weekly to get answers to their questions. The Microsoft-backed AI company also said that the latest update will be rolled out gradually.
OpenAI said that they aim to make “AI accessible to anyone curious about its capabilities.” Until now, creating an account was mandatory for using ChatGPT. By dropping the sign-up option, OpenAI is expecting to attract a broader audience.
“We may use what you provide to ChatGPT to improve our models for everyone. If you’d like, you can turn this off through your Settings – whether you create an account or not,” the ChatGPT creator added in the blog post.
At the same time, OpenAI also highlighted that creating an account gives several benefits to users. This includes the ability to save and review the chat history and share chats. In addition to this, users can also unlock additional features like voice conversations and custom instructions.
It is to be noted that users will be able to use ChatGPT based on GPT-3.5 without creating an account. However, users are required to spend some money and create an account to use the more advanced version of the chatbot based on GPT-4 Turbo.
