Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia has announced that India is willing to grant the necessary license to Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, as quoted by ANI on Tuesday. However, Starlink must comply with all of India’s concerns, particularly those related to security.
Scindia stated that the government is open to issuing licenses to any entity, including Starlink, as long as they meet the required criteria. “We are ready to give a license to anyone, including Starlink. They have to comply with all our concerns. We have to see that all security concerns are addressed. There is a specific format. You have to check all the boxes. When you check all the boxes, you get the license. If they do that, we will be very happy.”Scindia was quoted by ANI as saying.

Starlink, which is keen to expand into India has applied for a licence to begin operations and had commented on Scinidia’s decision on spectrum auction early this week as Musk, responded to Reliance Jio’s opposition to TRAI’s stance, called the call for auctioning “unprecedented.” He questioned if allowing Starlink to operate would be “too much trouble,” pointing out that Starlink’s approach is consistent with global practices.
Starlink’s entry into India has gained momentum, especially with Donald Trump’s US presidency win. Musk’s close ties with Trump, having openly campaigned and raised funds for his presidential run, may also play a role in the company’s Indian venture.
Elon Musk‘s Starlink’s presence in India is focused on internet access in remote areas where conventional telecom services are costly.
The company’s satellite constellation uses low Earth orbit technology to deliver high-speed, low-latency internet, supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls and more.
Starlink is the world’s first and largest satellite constellation, constantly updated with the latest technology, as per its website.
