WhatsApp Rolls Out Voice Message Transcripts: Here's How To Use It
WhatsApp announced the rollout of a new feature last week that allows users to generate transcripts of voice messages.
This feature called Voice Message Transcripts, enables users to read voice messages in text form, making it easier to understand and respond to messages.
To use this feature, users need to enable Voice Message Transcripts on their devices. WhatsApp stated that this feature is disabled by default and must be manually enabled.
To do this, users have to open WhatsApp Settings, tap on Chats, and turn on Voice Message Transcripts. Additionally, users can choose the language for transcripts, with currently supported languages including English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.

Once enabled, users can access transcripts by tapping and holding a voice message, then tapping more options > Transcribe.
WhatsApp announced that the transcript might take a moment to become available. If a user receives a “Transcript unavailable” error, it may be due to a mismatch between the transcript language setting and the language of the voice message, background noise, or an unsupported language.

WhatsApp also emphasised that voice message transcripts are generated on the user’s device, ensuring that personal voice messages remain protected by end-to-end encryption.
WhatsApp stated that no one, including the company itself, can listen to voice messages or access the content of voice message transcripts.
The read receipts for voice messages will be displayed based on the user’s privacy settings. Users can learn more about voice messages and related features in WhatsApp’s support articles.
Furthermore, users can change the transcript language at any time by tapping more options > Settings > Chats > Transcript language.
