The much-awaited Bengaluru Metro Rail services on the two new sections of the Purple Line finally opened on Monday. It was after multiple delays, Bengaluru Metro, known as Namma Metro finally began operational, and the two opening lines are Baiyapanahalli to KR Puram (2.1km) and Kengeri to Challaghatta (2.05 km)
Among the two, Baiyappanahalli-KR Pura section, will serve Bengalureans’ in connecting the tech hub of Whitefield with the CBD and beyond.
Contrary to the traditions, there was no formal or informal event on the inaugural day. Bengaluru Central MP, PC Mohan on X wrote that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted to commence the Purple Line services immediately without holding any formal inauguration ceremonies.

In a joint statement, Mohan and other MPs, LS Tejasvi Surya (Bangalore South) and DV Sadananda Gowda (Bangalore North) added that “This is another demonstration of cutting down VIP culture in the country and placing public interest as the top priority.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his official page on X, expressed his happiness over the operation of two key stretches of the Purple Line. In a reply tweet to Union Minister Shri Hardeep Puri, he wrote:

The pressure from the public and metro users posed BMRL to begin the service without formal inauguration as the users has even started hashtag campaign #StartPurpleLineOperations.
With the opening of two vital section, marking the entire East – West corridor, entire Bengaluru metro network increased from 69.66 km to 73.81 km comprising 66 metro stations.
