In the wake of persistent rains and heavy snowfall, the region between Nashri and Banihal has been blocked by multiple landslides and shooting stones, according to the Jammu Kashmir Traffic Police.
Vital points including Dalwass Mehad, Cafeteria Trishul Mode, Morh Ghori Seri, Maroog, T2, Digdool, have witnessed landslides.
The Jammu-Srinagar national highway (NH 44), the critical artery connecting the Kashmir valley with the outside world, has remained blocked in Ramban district for the third consecutive day due to major landslides and shooting stones. Over 1,600 vehicles, comprising 1,000 Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) and 600 Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), find themselves stranded amidst the turmoil.
Efforts by authorities to clear the debris and restore passage have faced setbacks due to intermittent landslides and persistent adverse weather conditions. Despite partial restoration of traffic on Wednesday afternoon in the Banihal-Ramban sector, a massive landslide at Kishtwari Pathar blocked the highway once again.
Heavy snowfall in vital roads such as the Srinagar-Ladakh Road and routes connecting Line of Control (LOC) regions in Kupwara and Gurez, have resulted in the disruption of the transportation of essential goods and services to the valley.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Ramban administration have been trying to restore access to the affected stretches, aiming to secure the safety of the public and resume essential services.
The police advised people to avoid travelling on the National Highway-44 (NH-44) till the road is clear.
As the region grapples with the aftermath, the official authorities have issued avalanche warnings in several areas in Kashmir, urging residents in higher regions to remain cautious.
