Visa Relaxations, Exceptional Facilities: Thailand Surpasses Target In Foreign Tourist Arrivals

Foreign tourist arrivals in Thailand have seen a significant jump in 2024 after the country during the recent past eased several visa rules for international travellers. New data has revealed that the tourism-reliant nation saw a 26 % jump in foreign visitors last year, making the business near pre-covid level.

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced that international tourist arrivals have surpassed the target of 35 million visitors in 2024, generating over 1.8 trillion Baht in tourism revenue.

According to a report by Thailand-based media house The Nation, the country is reportedly prepared to welcome between 36 and 39 million international visitors and generate 1.98–2.23 trillion Baht in tourism revenue in 2025, aiming to make the country the premier global Tourism Hub, offering exceptional experiences.

The boom in tourism follows the country’s visa waiver including for Chinese and Indian nationals. Tourists from China have constituted the largest groups of visitors in Thailand. The Chinese tourist arrivals totalled 6.7 million, constituting about 60 % of the pre-pandemic record of 11.1 million in 2019 after the two countries signed permanent t visa waivers.

After the COVID-19-induced trouble that hit the industry, the tourism-dependent country has been making relaxations in visa rules for several countries. Thailand had declared indefinite visa-free entry to Indian nationals in 2024.

The southeast nation expects the tourist arrival to record a jump in 2025, helping the country’s economy and revenue generation.
