Anna Sebastian, a chartered accountant who was an executive at multinational consulting firm Ernst & Young in its Pune office, died just four months after being employed. The death of the 26-year-old has raised concerns about the workplace practices at the company.
Anna’s mother Anita Augustine has blamed ‘work stress’ at EY for the tragic death. Augustine recounts how her daughter suffered from anxiety, sleeplessness, and stress shortly after joining the company. The grieving mother has penned a powerful letter to Rajiv Memani, Chairman of EY India, holding the company accountable. Describing the intense workload Anna has faced, Augustine said that she was often assigned additional tasks verbally. Augustine also added that no one from the company attended her daughter’s funeral. Reacting to the tragic death, Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi urged the cooperate houses to relook at their HR policies.
