Dubai has announced that its upcoming mega project, Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), is progressing at an accelerated pace. The planned $35 billion passenger terminal will also include a large-scale internal transport system which would help the passengers move efficiently within the airport.
The new project is said to include a comprehensive underground train network, such as automated trains and subways, to connect different parts of the terminal. This was revealed by Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airport, during a session at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) on Wednesday, and said that the aim was to “minimise the travel distance.”

“It is such a large site that it would be about a 20-minute journey time and we have to make it fast, efficient, and competitive in terms of circulation of transfer passengers to get to and from the airport,” reports Khaleej Times.
As the journey is expected to take 15 to 20 minutes, the authorities have decided to design it as a seated train. Moreover, earlier, the Dubai airport chief had shared his thought of building eight smaller airports inside. He further added that the team would use AI to program the most convenient logistics operations to ensure that passengers breeze through the airport.
UAE’s Dubai World Central (DWC), Al Maktoum International, is a planned mega airport that, once completed, is set to become the world’s largest airport by passenger and cargo capacity.
