Iran Destroys Key $300 Million US THAAD Radar System That Was Coordinating All Regional Defenses

Jordan: Despite earlier claims to have been accepted, two separate Iranian missile attacks on February 8 and March 3 have completely obliterated $300 million US THAAD missile defense systems situated in Jordan, a US official confirmed.

The crucial radar system acts as a coordinating tool directing US missile defense batteries in the Gulf countries. According to a US official, the damage to the system risks further straining the region’s ability to counter-attack. The US has a total of eight THAAD system across the world. Several THAAD systems located across gulf countries have also been hit by the Iranian missiles, inflicting severe damages to the US defenses.

US media CNN reported the damage citing commercial satellite imagery, which shows an RTX Corp. AN/TPY-2 radar and support equipment used by US THAAD missile defense systems – was destroyed at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan during the latest conflict with Iran.

A US official later confirmed the destruction of the million dollars worth of the US system. The destruction of the defense system has put the region and its US assets vulnerable to the attacks amid the widening conflict in the West Asia.

Iran began retaliatory attacks after the US-Israeli combined strikes hit across Iranian cities that killed the Persian country’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
