Iranian Cruise Missile Strikes Oil Tanker In Qatar, Says Defence Ministry

Doha, Qatar: Qatar’s Defence Ministry on Wednesday, April 1, said that Qatar was targeted by three cruise missiles launched from Iran, one of which struck an oil tanker, while two were intercepted.

The third one hit an oil tanker leased to Qatar Energy, and the tanker’s 21-person crew was evacuated, with no casualties, the ministry said. The Qatari ministry stated that the missiles launched from Iran hit oil tanker in the country’s territorial waters.

“Coordination was established with relevant authorities to evacuate the tanker, which had 21 crew members on board, without any human casualties,” the defence ministry added in its statement.

Since the US and Israel launched attacks against Iran in February, gulf countries, which hosts the US military bases, have faced repeated drone and missile salvos from Iran over the past month.

After the US targeted key infrastructures in Iran, Tehran struck hydrocarbon infrastructure in the oil-rich Gulf nations as well as shipping, and closed strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of global oil usually passes.
