US United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently criticized Iran’s military expenditures, especially the funding of its proxies in the region, sparking reactions from netizens, mocking the United States.
While Rubio slammed Iran for spending wealth on military needs, the users on social media pointed out the US budget for military expenditure, which is around 60 times bigger than the Islamic Republic. The US foreign military spending notably contrasts the country’s domestic issues, fueling a broader debate about foreign policy priorities and military funding.

While Iran’s defense budget is $15B, the US defense spending amounts to $900B, highlighting the huge US cost for the military despite having its own budgetary inefficiencies.
As of 2026, the US military budget is the world’s largest, with the FY2026 proposal aiming for $961 billion to over $1 trillion defense budget, according to reports.

Notably, the expenditure represents over 40% of global military spending, exceeding the combined budgets of the next eight largest spenders. Whereas, Iran’s proposal is nominal increase in its defense and security budget to approximately $9.23 billion, aiming to strengthen deterrence and manage regional instability.
