Iran’s state controlled Press TV reported that Hamas‘ head of the political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh has been killed in an attack in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Press TV quoted the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Wednesday morning that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed when their residence was hit in Tehran. The IRGC statement said the attack is under investigation and the results will be announced later in the day.

Iran’s Mehr News shared the entire statement from IRGC:

“With condolences to the heroic nation of Palestine and the Islamic nation and the combatants of the Resistance Front and the noble nation of Iran, this morning (Wednesday) the residence of Mr. Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political office of the Islamic Resistance of Hamas, was hit in Tehran, and following this incident, he and one of his bodyguards were martyred”.

Mehr headlined the news: “Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh martyred in Tehran”.

Reports said the Palestinian resistance leader was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Iranian president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian.

Haniyeh was the target of Israeli assassination attempts earlier as well.
