Gaza, Palestine: The United States and Arab mediators sought to conclude an agreement between Israel and Hamas to call quit to the more than a year-long war in the Gaza Strip. Israel is continuing its bloodied war in the coastal enclave. Medics said the Israeli Occupation Force has killed more than 16 Palestinians overnight.
According to Reuters, a ceasefire agreement could be signed in the coming days, and on the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza in return of the Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
Medics said an Israeli airstrike killed at least 10 people in a house in the northern town of Beit Lahiya, where army forces have operated since October, while six were killed in separate airstrikes in Gaza City, Nuseirat camp in central areas, and Rafah near the border with Egypt, said the report.

US, along with Cairo and Doha, intensified its effort in calling a ceasefire before President Joe Biden leaves the office, and Donald Trump takes over. A Palestinian official close to the negotiations told Reuters that mediators had narrowed gaps on most of the agreement’s clauses. The Palestinian official also added that Israel had introduced conditions which Hamas rejected. He did not elaborate on Israel’s condition.
As per the report, CIA Director William Burns was in Doha for talks with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on bridging remaining gaps between Israel and Hamas. Israeli negotiators were in Doha earlier this week looking to bridge gaps between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian resistance group, on a deal Biden outlined in May.
Several rounds of ceasefire talks happened in the past which all ended up in failure. One of the reason presumed to be the cause of the failure of the talks is Israel’s insisting on retaining a military presence in Gaza and Hamas refusing to release hostages until all the troops are pulled out.
