Israel-Palestine War: Israel Launches Operation Inside Al-Shifa Hospital

Edited by Hiba Anvar

Israel forces have entered inside the Al-Shifa hospital claiming to carry out an operation against ‘Hamas’. Dozens of soldiers are in the facility’s emergency department while tanks are stationed in the yard of the medical complex, reports Al Jazeera. The medical staffs have refused to abandon their patients which includes a large number of babies.

The Israel army said that their team includes medical team and Arabic speakers who have been trained to prepare for what is described as a “complex and sensitive” environment.

The raid came soon after White House Spokesperson John Kirby’s claim that Washington has ‘information’ that Hamas is using Gaza hospital without providing any proper evidence. The Palestinian group rejected the US claim and accused US for showing green light to Israel’s occupation to commit further brutal massacres targeting hospitals in Gaza.

Hamas has also called out on the United Nations to establish an international committee to inspect all hospitals in Gaza to refute Israel’s claim. Health workers working in the inside the hospital has also rejected Israel’s claim. They also accused Israel using such claims to justify their unlawful attacks on health facilities in the Gaza strip.

Meanwhile, the Israel defence officials has said that they have agreed to allow fuel shipments into the Gaza strip for humanitarian operations. Israel refused fuel entry to the besieged enclave since the October 7 incident, reports AP. Israel military operation has also halted the work of ambulances and rescue teams in the city.

Health Ministry of Gaza is unable to update the overall causality due to the collapse of communication and services at Palestinian-run hospitals. As per the last update from November 10, 11,078 Palestinians are killed in Gaza which includes 4,506 children and 3,027 women.

The UN security council without making any mention of ‘ceasefire’ is now negotiating a new resolution that demands “immediate extended humanitarian pauses”. So far, the Security Council has rejected four resolutions on the war and thus many of its 15 members said that they do need any more new resolution unless its going to be approved. The new draft includes following demands- to open humanitarian corridor for sufficient number of days, to enable unhindered access for UN, Red Cross and other aid workers to get water, electricity, fuel, food and medical supplies, repair of essential infrastructure and urgent rescue and recovery efforts.

The Israel Prime Minister hit out on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who delivered his strongest comments on Israel ever since the war began but didn’t mention ‘ceasefire’. “I have been clear that the price of justice cannot be the continued suffering of all Palestinian civilians. Even wars have rules. All innocent life is equal in worth – Israeli and Palestinian,” Justin Trudeau said.

“I urge the government of Israel to exercise maximum restraint … The world is witnessing this, the killing of women and children, of babies. This has to stop,” he added.

The White house has said that they do not support attacking a hospital from air and does not want to see a firefight in the hospital after the Israel military claimed that they would be raiding Al Shifa hospital in Gaza.
