“Death Is coming To So Many People In Gaza,” Said Dr Hammam Alloh In His Last Interview Before He Was Killed

Edited by Fathimathu Shana

As Israeli occupation force continue their brutal bombing on the people of Palestine, a doctor based in Gaza was martyred on Saturday. DR. Hammam Alloh was a nephrologist at Al Shifa hospital. He was at his wife’s home when an Israeli airstrike hit and killed him along with his father, father-in-law and brother-in-law. Dr. Alloh is a Palestinian nephrologist and has been working in the Al Shifa hospital for the past two years. He is survived by his wife and two children aged 4 and 5.

Dr. Alloh has been resolute about not to evacuate Al Shifa hospital amid the threat from the occupation force. The kidney specialist called out to the US and the rest of the world to intervene in the Israeli occupation force’s indiscriminate brutal genocide on the Palestinians. In an interview given to Democracy Now, Mr. Alloh said he did nit went to the ned school for 14 years to only think about his life and not about his patients.

On October 31st, Dr. Hammam Alloh has given an interview without knowing that would be his last interview. When asked about why he did not leave the northern Gaza when Israel dropped pamphlets warning to evacuate the city, he asked, “and if I go, who treats my patients?. We are not animals. We have the right to receive proper healthcare. So we can’t just leave”.

When asked about World Health Organisation’s advice for the doctors to abide to the warning issued by the Israeli occupation force to evacuate the Al Shifa hospital claiming it to be Hamas “headquarters”, Mr. Alloh has replied that “you think I went to medical school and for my postgraduation degree for a total of 14 years so I can think about my life and not my patients?…this is not the reason why I became a doctor”.

He also denied the Israeli claim of Hamas headquarters working under the hospital. He did not find even a “clue” that suggested the resistance group working under the largest group in the besieged Gaza Strip.

During his interview to the Democracy Now, he called out to the “superpower country” being United States to put itself in the shoes of a people who are massively being ‘exterminated and eradicated’ and asked what would they do to ensure their citizen’s wellbeing. He called out to the world leaders to stop pretending “to care for humanitarian and human rights”. He conveyed his message to the world as “firstly we need this war to end, because we are real human. We are no animals. We have right to live”.

According to report, more than 200 health workers lost their life in the barbarous bombing of Israeli occupation force and 20 out of 36 hospitals in the Gaza Strip has went out of service due to the shortage of fuels, power supply and other necessary facilities. The largest hospital in the Gaza Strip, Al Shifa hospital and Al Quds hospital also went out of service in the already war battered ground.

The hospitals in Gaza are not only for the sick and wounded, but also for the thousands who got displaced by the war. Reports say that nearly 1.6 million people got displaced since October 7th. If the occupation force continue their heinous bombing on the innocent civilians and children who are mainly sick, wounded, unarmed and are refugees who were forced to take shelters in the corridors, gardens and premises of the hospitals and United Nations installations, the situation would beyond a cataclysmic destruction and as Dr. Hammam Alloh has said, “death is coming to so many people in the Gaza Strip, in hours to days”.
