Sheikha Moza bint Nasser is the mother of current Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. She has been a relentless supporter of Palestine. Ever since the current war of Israel and Palestine has started, Ms. Nasser has been in the frontline trying to draw an end to the catastrophic war.

Last month, she held telephone conversation with Queen Rania of Jordan and first lady of Turkey, Emine Erdogan and came to an agreement about increasing cooperation and solidarity adhering to the brutal attack in Gaza Strip.

Earlier she raised her voice about the spread of misinformation at the time of war. In her Instagram post she wrote that “Misinformation, deception and distortion are the most prominent elements of the propaganda discourse of modern wars in general”. She also added that it is imperative to distinguish between facts and false narratives”.

When the Al Ahli Arab Hospital in the Gaza Strip was attacked, she was outraged about the situation. Taking to social media, she wrote that “when the Palestinian people are subjected to mass murder, mere words of condemnation become empty rhetoric, falling short even of silence” and called for an immediate ceasefire. She also called out the international community of being “complicit in this atrocity”.

The Education Above All Foundation, in which Ms. Nasser is a chairperson issued a statement calling for providing immediate humanitarian access to provide basic necessities that were blocked for the Palestinians by the occupation force. The statement also called out to the international leadership to hold those who are responsible for bombing schools and hospitals responsible.

The statement read, “EAA (Education Above All) Foundation and its partners call for immediate, unimpeded humanitarian access to provide clean water, food and emergency services to the people of Gaza Conflict. EAA Foundation also calls for justice for the victims of attack and that international leadership holds those responsible for the bombings of schools and hospitals accountable”.

In 2012, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser visited the besieged Gaza Strip along with her husband, the then Emir of Qatar, Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. They met with Hamas leader Ismail Haniya. He was the first woman world leader to meet face to face with Hamas leaders.

It is pertinent to note the Qatar Sheikh and Sheikha has visited Hamas during a time which a widespread international boycott of Hamas was going strong. Even though several high-level diplomats have visited Gaza at that time, all of them carefully avoided meeting with Hamas leaders.

Talking about the Qatar leaders’ visit, then Hamas government spokesperson Taher al-Nun said that “this visit has great political significance. He is the first Arab leader to break the political siege”, as quoted by France 24.
