Indian Opposition leader Priyanka Gandhi criticised the government’s supporting the destruction and genocide in Gaza through an X (formerly Twitter) post. Commenting on the death toll in the blockaded Palestinian strip on Monday, the Congress leader called it “deplorable and disgraceful milestone”.

Priyanka Gandhi took to her X and hit out at the international community over the death of more than 10,000 people in Gaza, which includes at least 5,000 children. The condition of Gaza Strip is deteriorating day-by-day, as the Israel-Palestine war entered its second month. Even though Israel is experiencing global pressure for an immediate ceasefire and restoration of peace on the Strip, Tel Aviv is not ready to stop striking the city, irrespective of hospitals and refugee camps, until the whole Hamas held hostages are let free.

“…over 10,000 people killed in Gaza of which almost half are children. One child is being killed every ten minutes according to the WHO, and now tiny babies had to be removed from their incubators due to lack of oxygen and were left to die”, wrote Priyanka Gandhi on X. As reported by Al Jazeera reports, the death toll in Gaza has already surpassed 11,000 with more than 8,000 children and women. The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) called for an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” to prevent the drastic loss of life and health care systems in Gaza.

Gaza’s major hospital, Al Shifa, had been struggling for the past three days without electricity, water, and poor internet facilities, said the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Monday. The Director-General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu, took the condition to his official X handle and explained that the “situation is dire and perilous”. According to him, “the constant gunfire and bombings in the area have exacerbated the already critical circumstances”.

Priyanka Gandhi also expressed her shock to “the conscience of those supporting this genocide, no ceasefire”. “Just more bombs, more violence, more killings and more suffering. Shame on the governments supporting this destruction. When is it going to be enough?”, she added.
