Israeli Airstrikes Hit Southern Lebanon Despite Ceasefire Extension

Beirut, Lebanon: Israel reportedly carried out several strikes on Southern Lebanon on Friday, April 24, despite US president, Donald Trump, announced a three-week extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. 

The Jewish state’s warplane struck the towns of Touline and Khirbet Selm, Lebanon 24 news outlet reported. The outskirts of Towline were also shelled with artillery.

Amid the last ten-day ceasefire deal, both the group had engaged with isolated attacks and counter attacks. On Friday, the two countries  agreed to extend their ceasefire by three weeks after negotiations involving senior officials from both countries.

The initial 10-day truce, which began last Friday, was set to expire on Monday but will now continue until at least 17 May.

The ceasefire extension announcement was made after a meeting at the White House. The meeting was attended by Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors. United States President Donald Trump said that the talks went very well, securing the deal to extend the ceasefire. This was the second high-level negotiation between the two countries in recent weeks.
