Oman: Oman authorities have warned against alleged begging network in the gulf nation. The police said that there are organised network behind many beggars that exploit individuals and managing their activities for financial gains.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) said called on citizens and residents to report cases of begging or suspected exploitation rather than encouraging the practice.

The Sultanate has reportedly found several people begging operating  under networks that exploit and control them. The officials have urged the public to help combat the practice by reporting suspected cases.

The move is meant to prevent organised begging in the Sultanate, hence protecting people who may be exploited by networks operating behind the scenes, as per the authorities.

Residents can reports beggars and suspected cases to the authorities through the dedicated hotline, 1166. According to Oman’s Penal Code, anyone caught begging in mosques, streets, public or private places or shops can face up to one year in prison and a fine of RO100.
