The Iranian body investigating the May helicopter crash of President Ebrahim Raisi found that it was caused by bad weather. The helicopter carried 63-year-old Raisi and his entourage crashed on a fog-shrouded mountainside in Northern Iran, killing the president, foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and 6 others.
As per the state media reports, the special board investigating the reason for the copter crash found that the main cause was the ‘complex climatic and atmospheric conditions in the region in the spring’. As per the report, the sudden emergence of a thick and dense mass of rising fog caused the collision of the helicopter into the mountain.

Iran’s army also said in May for not find any evidence of criminal activity in the helicopter crash. In August, the Fars news agency quoted the reason behind the crash as bad weather and the helicopter’s inability to ascend with 2 extra passengers against the security protocols. However, Iranian armed forces rejected the news agency’s claim about the extra passenger boarding against the security protocols.
Notably, the late President Raisi and other members were traveling in the BELL 212 Helicopter, a two-blade aircraft. The helicopter was manufactured by the US and had the capacity to carry 15 people. The helicopter was reportedly, 10 years old and the US sanctions made it difficult for Iran to obtain new parts or new aircraft.
