The UAE Media Council has announced new regulations and standards during a press conference in Dubai on Tuesday. As per the Khaleej Times report, the newly established platform will now monitor content as part of the initiative. Among the key provisions is allowing individuals owning media institutions and outlets under specific control and conditions.
The new changes mark the first media regulatory framework issued in over 40 years. The system regulates media activities for individuals and various media institutions, establishing 20 new standards for media content circulated and published in the country.

These new standards aim to preserve national identity and set conditions and controls for advertising to ensure all media entities comply with content guidelines. The regulations prohibit misleading content, prevent confusion between content and advertising, require clear advertising messages, and ban unauthorised content in related sectors such as health advertisements.
The AI tools will also monitor cross-border operations, targeting individuals or entities outside the UAE that publish and promote false content aimed at local audiences. The Media Council had also announced the launch of a new platform which would enable residents to report fake news, misleading ads, and non-compliant digital content.
With the launch of the new platform, residents will be able to report misleading or harmful content directly. This community-led effort aims to reinforce content standards and promote accountability among digital creators and advertisers.
Moreover, the administrative penalties outlined in the law include warnings and fines reaching up to Dhs 1 million. In case of any repeated violations, the penalties could be doubled to Dh 2 million. Penalties also include cancellation of licenses, permits, and approvals issued to individuals, establishments, or media institutions.
