The world welcomed 2024 with celebrations. Kiribati, New Zealand, and Australia were among the first nations to celebrate the New Year 2024. The world celebrated the arrival of 2024 with a fireworks display accompanied by other events. However, people around the world bid farewell to 2023 amid the ongoing wars in Gaza and Ukraine.

Celebrations were held in many parts of India as part of welcoming 2024. In Mumbai, thousands gathered at various locations, including Marine Drive and the Gateway of India, to ring in the year 2024. In Delhi, several people gathered at India Gate, Connaught Place, and other popular places. Major tourist locations in the country also witnessed huge crowds. Notably, New Year celebrations were also held in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk. Security has been strengthened across all locations in the country for the safe conduct of the celebrations.

Meanwhile, New Zealanders were among the first to celebrate New Year 2024. There were fireworks displays in Auckland”s Sky Tower as part of the celebrations. It was also accompanied by a laser light and animation show. Meanwhile, Sydney, Australia’s biggest city, also welcomed 2024 with a fireworks display. Several people gathered at Sydney Harbour to attend the celebrations. The fireworks were launched from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Sydney Opera House, and other buildings across Sydney.

The United Kingdom also welcomed 2024 with massive celebrations, including a spectacular fireworks display along with lights and a drone show. Several people gathered along the banks of the River Thames to watch the fireworks display. Al Jazeera reported that temple bells rang out across Japan as people gathered at shrines and temples to welcome 2024. Meanwhile, in China, most major cities have banned fireworks due to safety and pollution concerns.

However, these celebrations came against the backdrop of conflicts around the globe. As the conflict between Israel and Hamas rolls into the new year, The Guardian reported that at least 100 people have been killed in the past 24 hours in Gaza. People in the Gaza region are trying to find shelter, food, and water rather than thinking about the New Year. At the same time, Russia attacked Ukraine’s Kharkiv on Sunday with a wave of missiles. At least 28 people were wounded in this attack.
