As Trump Closes To Victory, Harris Cancels Election Night Speech

As Republican candidate Donald Trump closes in on victory, Kamala Harris cancels her election night speech. The Democrat’s campaign said she will speak tomorrow. At the same time, Trump headed towards the convention centre in West Palm Beach, where some of his supporters have gathered to watch the election results.

As a major setback to Harris, Trump has flipped the Georgia vote, which is one of the swing states in the country.

Republicans won control of the US Senate with victories in West Virginia and Ohio, ensuring that Trump’s party will control at least one chamber of Congress next year. Neither party appeared to have a clear advantage in the battle for the House of Representatives, which Republicans now control by a narrow margin.

Trump have clear upper hand in five of the seven swing states, which determines the election result.  North Carolina and Georgia have been called in favour of Trump. He is also ahead in Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Nevada.

The swing states are also known as the battle ground states. Both Democrats and Republicans enjoy equal share of supporters. This year, the swing states are Pennsylvania, with 19 electoral college votes, Michigan (10), Georgia (16), Wisconsin (10), North Carolina (16), Nevada (6) and Arizona (11).

As for electoral college numbers, which will determine the winner in this election, the former President is ahead with 247 votes, while Harris trails with 214. Each candidate is aiming for the magic number of 270 electoral college votes.

Trump’s victory in Georgia has narrowed down Harris’ way to win the battle. The state had been a hope for Democrats after President Joe Biden won the 2020 election. It was the first time a presidential candidate from the party had won in Georgia since 1992.

Though Harris still have slight hope in winning the White House, by winning Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, where votes are still counting, they appear to be trending towards Trump.
