Civil Fraud Case Trial Against Trump to Start on Monday, a Major Roadblock to His Second Term

Former US President Donald Trump faces another obstacle on his way to re-election as he is scheduled to go on trial on Monday in a civil fraud case. The lawsuit, filed against him and two of his sons in New York, could threaten his re-election prospects.

Judge Arthur Engoron has already ruled that Trump and his sons, Eric and Don Jr., committed fraud by overvaluing the real estate and financial assets of the Trump Organization. The court also found that the family has been committing the fraud for years.

On Monday, the court will adjourn to begin the trial of the former president. Trump confirmed the development on Sunday, saying he will be present at the court on Monday morning. On his Truth Social platform, Trump said he will be going to court on Monday morning to fight for his name and reputation. He called the case a sham.

According to the New York civil case, Judge Arthur Engoron has ruled that Donald Trump, his two eldest sons, and other executives of the Trump Organization have been involved in a scheme that involved lying to tax collectors, lenders, and insurers for years. The scheme was aimed at inflating the value of their properties by $812 million to $2.2 billion between 2014 and 2021-2023.

In addition to the civil fraud case, Trump is facing a number of other legal challenges, including a trial at a federal court in Washington on March 4 on charges of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. He is also facing a criminal conspiracy charge at a New York state court, a case for mishandling classified documents after leaving office at a Florida court, and a state charge in Georgia, where prosecutors accuse him of illegally trying to get the southern state”s 2020 election results changed in his favor.

As a result, the judge revoked the business licenses that allowed the Trump Organization to operate some of its New York properties. The 77-year-old Trump is the Republican frontrunner in the 2024 presidential race. The fraud case also threatens his business empire.
