Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came in support of tech giant Elon Musk after the Nazi salute controversy. Taking to his X account, Netanyahu said Musk is being “falsely smeared”. An awkward gesture of Musk at Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th US President was described as the Nazi salute by the critics.
“Elon is a great friend of Israel,” Netanyahu said.
He added that Musk has “repeatedly and forcefully supported Israel’s right to defend itself against genocidal terrorists and regimes who seek to annihilate the one and only Jewish state”.

Musk visited Israel last year, after the surprise attack from Palestinian resistance group of Gaza Strip on October 7th 2023, which lead to the brutal war that longed more than a year. During the November 2023 visit, Musk toured a kibbutz attacked by Hamas. Netanyahu accompanied him, and met Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who told him he had “a huge role to play” in combating anti-Semitism.

The visit followed a separate row in which Musk was accused of anti-Semitism. At the time, the X owner had endorsed a post accusing Jewish people of “hatred against whites”, calling it “the actual truth”. He later apologised.
Reportedly, since Musk took over X, which was formerly known as Twitter, in 2022, the platform has been accused of spreading anti-Semitism and other forms of racism.
Musk himself has already dismissed the criticism over his inauguration gesture, posting on X: “Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired”.
