The helicopter had landed in muzaffarabad on Tuesday with SSG commandos on board. The copter crashed today killing them all as they were reportedly doing surveillance of protestors in the region. The Pakistan military said that all personnel on board embraced Shahadat (martyrdom).

There has been a heavy security presence in recent days in Muzaffarabad after members of a protest movement said they would hold demonstrations after the local government banned the group under anti-terror laws. The protests are driven by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), with demonstrators are demanding economic relief, better governance, and political reform, including the abolition of 12 legislative seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees living in Pakistan.
