Iran, US Presidents Sign Deal To End War - Analysts Call It Total 'US Surrender'

US president Donald Trump has officially signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ending the Iran war on Thursday, June 18. The deal takes immediate effect, formally ending the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

The presidents of the US and Iran have signed an initial peace deal at Versailles Palace in France during the G7 summit. The US president said that the deal would prevent an economic catastrophe, warning further that the US  would “bomb the hell” out of Iran if no final deal emerged. The issue of Iran’s nuclear programme, the main reason stated by the US for the conflict, is still to be negotiated over an extendable 60-day period.

The agreement includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a $300bn (£224bn) plan for Iran’s “reconstruction”, and the US terminating “all types of sanctions” on Iran.  Trump said that Iran can access a $300 billion private fund ‘only if they’re doing things right’ and that the US has taken a lot of Iran’s money which will at ‘some point’ have to be returned.

Tehran has confirmed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also signed the document on Wednesday. Notably, Iran’s parliamentary speaker and key negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf told state media his distrust of the US remained, and Iran’s “finger is on the trigger”.
