A London couple who funded luxurious lifestyle by stealing bank cards from gym goers” lockers have been sentenced. Ashley Singh, 39, and girlfriend Sophie Bruyne, 20, were the scam artists who would search through the gym lockers while the victims were working out, and would steal bank and SIM cards. Both have visited gyms across London and the South East, Metro reports.

The couple has targeted 18 people over a year and a total value of £250,000 has been stolen. By maxing out the victims” credit cards, they spent on expensive tech and designer gear, before selling it on and using the cash to buy bags, shoes, holidays and even a pedigree puppy, The Standard reports.

The Facebook page of Sophie Bruyne showed the photos of the couple posing next to swimming pools, driving a luxury car and standing in front of an aquarium at Burj Al Arab, Dubai”s most iconic hotel and a global icon of Arabian luxury.

By an extensive investigations conducted by the Metropolitan Police, couple got arrested at Gatwick Airport on January 27, 2023 by tracing their phones, cars, and faces on CCTV.

Detective Constable Luis Martins Da Silva, who investigated this case, said: “We know Londoners are worried about theft. It’s a horrible crime, and it causes a lot of stress, pain, and financial loss. That’s why we take this crime seriously and a whole team of us were committed to catching Singh and Bruyea,” The Standard reports.

Among the 18 crimes reported, 14 were reported in London, one in Sussex, one from Hertfordshire and two from Cambridgeshire. On Wednesday, the couple were sentenced at Croydon Crown Court to conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation between January 2022 and January 2023.

Ashley Singh was jailed for three years. Sophie Bruyea was sentenced to 20 months at a young offenders” institute, suspended for two years, a rehabilitation programme and 120 hours unpaid work.
