Over 170 Global Leaders Including Barak Obama Demands Bangladesh Government To End "13Years Of Harrasement" Aginst Muhammed Yunus.

Over 170 global leaders came forward in protest against accusations shouldered on Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammed Yunus. The leaders including former US president Barak Obama asked the Bangladesh Government to pull the plug on harassment against Mr.Yunus.

The 83 year old Muhammed Yunus found Grameen Bank, a micro-credit lending bank in 1983, that provides loans for small entrepreneurs who would not normally be allowed such leverages. The bank aided greatly in pulling individuals out of poverty grips.

Bangladesh government indict Yunus for alleged swindling of more than $2 million from the employees” welfare fund of Grameen Telecom (other company he founded).

Sheikh Hasina who has been in power since 2009, launched and investigation on Grameen Bank”s activity and sacked Yunus from bank”s managing director for alleged violation of government”s retirement regulations.

According to AP, earlier this month, 18 former Grameen Telecom  workers filed case against Yunus alleging he drew off their job benefits.

In an open letter to Sheikh Haseena, the incumbent Prime Minister of Bangladesh, global leaders including former president Obama, former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton and more than 100 Nobel Peace Prize laureates signed an open letter demanding suspension of all legal cases against Muhammed Yunus.

According to statements provided by the letter the issue is perceived as a “broader assault on human rights” and Shaikh Haseena”s government “has been persecuting” Yunus for the past 13 years.

The letter also called out to provide a panel of impartial judges from within the nation along with internationally recognized legal experts to examine the charges.
