On his visit to China, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda held a lengthy discussion over several border infrastructure projects. Mr. Prachanda is on a one-week long visit to China from September 23 to September 30.
The two leaders touched on several topics regarding the border infrastructure projects, deepening the equally beneficial cooperation between the two countries and expanding the traditional friendship between China and Nepal.
Nepal accentuated its support over one-China principal. It is agreed that Nepal is not in favour of “Taiwan Independence” and believe Taiwan to be an “inalienable” part of China. The Nepal Prime Minister also agreed that Tibet is China”s “internal affairs” and assured about not letting any separatist activities against China on “Nepal”s soil”.
The two countries agreed to accelerate the implementation of Belt Road Initiative, which was a key part in the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries back in 12 May, 2017. The two leaders agreed upon boosting the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network. China also agreed to aid Nepal to depart from the title of “least developed country” as fast as possible.
Both the countries agreed to hasten the implementation of Kathmandu Ring Road project and agreed to hold “8th Working Meeting On China-Nepal Railway Cooperation”.
Nepal also appreciated the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and agreed to consider joining the “Group of Friends of the GDI”. However, Nepal appeared to turndown China”s call to join Global Security Initiative (GSI).
To underscore China”s foreign policy during President Xi Jinping”s third term, Mr. Xi proposed three “key initiatives”, they are, Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI) and Global Civilisation initiative (GCI).
Nepal has “pledged to provide” China with Ek Singhe Gaida (Unicorn rhino) as a symbol of long lasting friendship between the countries and China has agreed to support the education of Chinese language in Nepal by providing “Chinese language testing services and sending Chinese language teachers and volunteers to Nepal”.
