A Cold War-era bunker, located in Washington, is making headlines as it is listed for sale and is carrying an asking price of $1.24 million. The New York Post reported that the bunker was constructed in 1959 and safeguarded some of America’s most critical nuclear weapons during the Cold War period.
As per the New York Times report, the bunker has undergone a significant transformation, and now it is converted into a family home deep under the ground. Notably, the bunker was decommissioned in 1990. Later in 2000, it was transformed into a beautiful property with three furnished bedrooms and three bathrooms.
From outside, this property maintains the appearance of a bunker, featuring a metal exterior and dug into the ground. It is worth mentioning that access to this property is through a garage, which is combined with a wood workshop. As per the report, the garage area consists of ample storage space, a small kitchen, and a bathroom. On the lower level, there is a spacious kitchen along with a dining area. There is also a living area equipped with three sofas. In addition to this, the bunker has a game room consisting of a pool table and dart board.
The New York Post also mentioned in its report that bunkers have witnessed a rise in popularity in recent years, which indicates a growing demand for doomsday shelters in the United States. America’s billionaires, including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, are reportedly investing in bunkers as part of doomsday preparations. In December, there were reports that the Facebook founder is constructing a $100 million compound in Hawaii, which will have an underground bunker and heavy security. At the same time, various survival shelter companies are reportedly offering luxurious bunkers as the world’s billionaires are making plans for apocalypse bunkers.
