At least ten people from Kerala are feared to have been killed in a building fire in the Mangaf district of Kuwait today. The fire reportedly erupted in a kitchen on a lower floor of the building. The blaze then rapidly spread across the complex, killing at least 49 people, mostly Indians, according to reports from local media. Over 30 workers from India have been reported to have sustained injuries.
Kerala-based media house Onmanorama reported that all the five Indians killed in the fire are from Kerala.
The fire originated from a short-circuit, and spread across the apartments. The gas cylinders in the apartments’ kitchens fueled the fire’s intensity, according to the Preliminary Investigation.
