Sydney Bondi Beach Mass Shooting: Gunmen Kill 12 At Hanukkah Jewish Event
Reportedly, at least 12 people were killed, and almost 30 were wounded, when two gunmen opened fire on a Jewish holiday event at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday. The Australian police have described it as a terrorist attack.
One suspected gunman was neutralised while another was captured in a critical condition, as per the New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the attack “shocking and distressing”, adding that “emergency responders are on the ground and working to save lives”.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog said that Jewish people were attacked by the ‘vile terrorists’ while they went to light the first candle of the Hanukkah holiday.
The white-sand crescent of Bondi is one of Australia’s most iconic beaches. Reliable waves draw surfers while locals swim in the Icebergs ocean pool year-round. Walkers and joggers use the clifftop Bondi to Coogee Coast Walk, with its dramatic scenery.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said he was appalled by the shooting and that Australia’s government must “come to its senses” after countless warnings. “These are the results of the antisemitic rampage in the streets of Australia over the past two years, with the antisemitic and inciting calls of ‘Globalise the Intifada’ that were realised today” he said.
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has also condemn the attack on Jews in Australia and criticised the Australian government for negligence.
