Former American president Donald Trump became the first US president to have taken a mugshot as he surrendered to Georgia authorities after he has been charged with racketeering to subvert the 2020 presidential election results in the state.

This was the fourth indictment of Donald Trump, and the mugshot was taken for the first time. According to reports, this formality was avoided earlier due to the realisation that there is a little need for a former president to be identified.

However, after the indictment in Georgia case was issued, Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat told Atlanta station WSB-TV that “Unless somebody tells me differently, we are following our normal practices, and so it doesn’t matter your status, we’ll have a mugshot ready for you.”

Trump, however, made use of the opportunity after the authorities in Georgia released the mugshot. He posted the booking photo on X, formerly Twitter, to further his cause for the 2024 US election campaign.

“Election interference… Never surrender!,” the flyer which was posted with the mugshot read. The former president gave the link of his website for donations for his campaign in the post.

The mugshot was taken at the Fulton County jail. Trump is seen wearing a blue blazer and red tie, and he is staring into the camera.

Earlier, following his indictment by a New York grand jury in April in a case to hush money payments to former adult-film actress Stormy Daniels, Trump”s campaign began selling T-shirts with a doctored mugshot for $47, with the words “NOT GUILTY” printed below.
