Venezuela Declares Emergency As 7.5 Earthquake Brings Massive Destruction, Humanitarian Disaster

Venezuela has declared a state of emergency after powerful twin earthquake devastated several parts of the country on Wednesday evening, June 24.

Many buildings collapsed even before people could make sense of what was happening and run for cover, leading to unpredictable casualties. The total fatality from the destructive earthquakes could reach from 10,000 to 100,000 lives, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Several countries have stood in solidarity with the Venezuela, expressing condolences. In a social media post on X, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended assistance to the Latin American nation, and wrote, “Deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the severe earthquakes in Venezuela. On behalf of the people of India, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Venezuela, especially to the families who have lost their loved ones.”

The Prime Minster added that India prays for the speedy recovery of those injured and stands in solidarity with all those affected during this difficult time. India stands ready to extend all possible assistance,”
