Venezuela Earthquakes: Death Toll Climbs To 235 As Rescue Efforts Continue

Venezuela: Rescue teams continue to recover more bodies beneath collapsed buildings by a pair of powerful earthquakes that officials say killed around 235 people and left around 5,000 people injured.

Many people are reportedly  missing and buildings were evacuated as far away as Brazil’s Amazon. As bodies still visible under debris hours after the quakes, rescue efforts are being ramped up. Rescue support, aid and condolences are also pouring in for the south American country.

The US said it would be deploying two warships, transport planes and helicopters and mobilizing $150 million in aid for the disaster hit Venezuela, while China expressed its willing to provide what help it can in an appropriate manner according to the needs of the Venezuelan side.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei showed readiness to provide any assistance required in relief and rescue operations and Brazil dispatched a field hospital to Venezuela, as well as 36 firefighters and several rescue and communications specialists via two flights. Several other nations including India has announced solidarity while expressing support.
