What Is The 'Garbage' Controversy Among Republicans And Democrats

Washington DC, US: Things are getting simmering hot as US Presidential election nears. The candidates are running around trying to woo the voters of swing states, polishing their policies and promises. The “garbage” remarks from President Joe Biden and comedian Tony Hinchcliffe during Republican rally has caused mudslinging among the parties and its supporters.

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump held several events in the swing states.

President Joe Biden made things a tad bit harder for the Democrats as he compared Donald Trump’s supporters to “garbage”. Speaking of the incident, Harris told reporters that she disagrees “with any criticism of people based on who they vote for”.

“I will represent all Americans, including those who don’t vote for me”, she added.

Joe Biden’s remark followed Trump supporter’s calling of people of Puerto Rico “garbage”.

Trump supporter and comedian Tony Hinchcliffe called Puerto Rico an “Island of garbage”. He made the comment while speaking at a Trump rally in Madison Square Garden.

Responding to this, Biden said. “Just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage”. Calling the people of Puerto Ricans “good, decent and honourable people”, the President said, “the only garbage I see floating out there is his supporter’s — his hatred — his demonisation of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American”.

The statement sparked fierce response from the Republicans. The comment was interpreted as an insult towards the average conservative voter.

Biden scrambled to clarify that his remarks applied only to the Tony Hinchcliffe.

The White House spokesman Andrew Bates quickly dismissed the notion that Biden was referring to Trump supporters. He said that Biden has “referred to the hateful rhetoric at the Madison Square Garden rally as garbage”, and not the videos.

In a transcript the White House released, the word “supporter’s” was a singular possessive, in seeming reference to Hinchcliffe, as opposed to the plural noun “supporters”.

Taking to his X account, Biden said “Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump’s supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage — which is the only word I can think of to describe it”.

Responding to Biden, Trump took up the passenger seat of a garbage truck as he arrived at Wisconsin for a rally. Wearing an orange reflective safety vest, he asked “How do you like my garbage truck?”

He also added that it is in honour of “Kamala and Joe Biden”.

Trump also said that he did not know Hinchcliffe. He said that “I don’t know the comedian. Never met him, but he’s a comedian, what can I say? I know nothing about him”. He also added that “I love Puerto Rico, and Puerto Rico loves me”.
