Teen Who Killed 2 With Porsche Told To Write Essay As Bail Condition By Pune Court

A 17-year-old boy who killed two on Saturday night in Pune while speeding in his Porsche, was granted bail by the Pune court on the condition that he has to write an essay on accidents, work with traffic police in Yerwada for 15 days, undergo counselling sessions, and take treatment for his drinking habit. The accused was granted bail within 15 hours of his arrest.

The accused, Vedant Agarwal is, reportedly, the son of a prominent Pune realtor. He was allegedly driving a Porsche car with no number plate under the influence of alcohol when he hit a bike, killing twenty-four-year-olds Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta.

The deceased, both engineers from Madhya Pradesh who were working in Pune, were returning after attending a get-together with friends. According to eyewitnesses, the Porsche was speeding at over 200 km per hour when it hit the bike at around 2:15 am near Kalyani Nagar Junction. Ashwini was thrown about 20 feet in the air and landed hard, while Aneesh was thrown at a parked car and suffered serious injuries, as per witnesses.

Reportedly, both individuals died on the spot.

As per NDTV, the minor was returning with his friends from a pub in Mundhwa after celebrating clearing their class 12 exams. Eyewitnesses state that after the car was hit, the minor who was driving tried to flee, but the airbags deployed, due to which he could not see anything, and parked the car. His two other friends were also with him; however, one of them escaped. People nearby caught the other two and waited for the police authorities, who arrived 15 minutes later.

A complaint was filed by a friend of the victims, and an FIR was registered under the sections relating to rash driving and death by negligence. Police stated that the pub that served the minors alcohol and the teenager’s father are also likely to be charged under sections of the Juvenile Justice Act to cruelty to children and the penalty for giving minors intoxicating liquor or narcotic drugs, as per The Indian Express.

“The father of the juvenile accused, who handed over this car without a number plate to him to drive and allowed him to go to a pub, has also been proceeded against. The establishment that served alcohol has also been proceeded against,” Amitesh Kumar, the city police commissioner, stated.

Kumar had urged the court to treat the accused as an adult for the “heinous crime.” The police are expected to approach the Bombay High Court against the bail order.

He added that the case is being investigated by an Assistant Commissioner of Police-level officer, and a “watertight case” will be made.

“There is no fear of law. In Pune, when authorities tried to enforce the helmet rule, all political parties came out to protest. We are living in an indisciplined society,” said Anurag Kulshrestha, president of an NGO working for road safety.
