Telangana State Police has topped the nation’s list of recovery of 30,049 mobile devices a year after the launch of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. 

With this record, the Telangana state ranks second after Karnataka which has successfully found 35,945 mobile phones. 

The new portal was launched in the State on April 19, 2023 on a pilot basis. And it is operational across the 780 police stations in the state. So far, per day, the department has recovered an average of 76 mobiles. 

The CEIR portal was developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to curb the menace of mobile theft and counterfeit mobile devices. The portal was launched nationwide on May 17, 2023. 

Meanwhile, Telangana has topped the list with a success rate of 33.71%. The maximum number of recoveries were made by Hyderabad Commissionerate with 4,869 mobile devices, followed by Cyberabad Commissionerate with 3,078 and Rachakonda Commissionerate with 3,042 mobile devices followed by Warangal Commissionerate with 1,919 Nizamabad with 1,556. 

The nodal officer for the CEIR portal for the state, Additional DGIP, CID Shikha Goel said, “The Telangana Police along with Department of Telecommunications (DoT) have integrated the CEIR portal with TS Police Citizen portal for efficient reporting of lost or missing mobile devices,” reports The Hindu. 

To enhance user-friendliness and to serve the citizens of Telangana more efficiently, the Telangana Police, in coordination with the DoT has successfully integrated the CEIR portal with the Telangana Police Citizen Portal. 

The state police has requested the citizens to make use of the service on the Telangana Police Citizen Portal for reposting lost/missing mobile devices. 

Dr. Lavanya, SP, Cyber Crime, CID, in coordination with DOT officials, including Hemant Rathwe, DDG Security, M. Arvind Kumar, Director Security, Lakshmana Kumar K, Assistant Director (Security Audit), and Ch. Suresh Babu, Inspector of IT Cell, CID, is overseeing the implementation of the CEIR application in the State, reports Deccan Chronicle.
