Audi E5 Sportback EV Debuts With Up To 770km Range, Gets A 100kWh Battery Pack
In Shanghai, the E5 Sportback, the Chinese version of Audi’s EV sub-brand, was on display. Audi’s first production model, the E5 Sportback, is built on new foundations created in collaboration with SAIC, MG’s owner. In 2024, the German automaker unveiled its electric vehicle division.
Four electric powertrains with outputs of 300 horsepower, 408 horsepower, 578 horsepower, and 787 horsepower will be available. According to recent reports, the entry-level EV has a rear-mounted motor, while the range-topper, which is branded Quattro, has four-wheel drive. The most powerful E5 model accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 3.4 seconds. With the 100kWh battery pack, Audi claims a maximum range of 770km on the Chinese test cycle. Thanks to 800V ultra-fast charging, the battery can add up to 370km of range in just 10 minutes.

Audi’s E Concept gave a preview of the E5 Sportback last year, and the production vehicle mostly adheres to the original design. It has a considerably simpler appearance and replaces Audi’s classic four-ring logo with the letter “AUDI.” The EV’s front and rear components are encircled by a working black loop that contains sensors, air curtains, radar, and lighting, including matrix headlights.
The full width of the dashboard is occupied by a 27-inch 4K display within. This wide-screen device manages the majority of the car’s controls without the need for conventional buttons. Running on Audi OS, its customisable screen layouts guarantee that crucial information is always displayed first in the top-level menu, allowing for quick touch-based navigation.
With the Audi 360 Assisted Driving system, which includes a LiDAR unit installed on the roof, three long-range radars, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and a variety of cameras, the vehicle can drive itself both in urban and rural areas.
