Since the introduction of BNCAP in October 2023, only a few SUVs from Tata Motors have undergone BNCAP crash tests. The Government of India’s Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) has introduced new safety-rated QR code stickers for cars and SUVs, which will be seen on all new vehicles crash-tested under BNCAP norms.
These stickers will help ensure that vehicle buyers are informed about the safety rating as tested by BNCAP. Each sticker will have a fixed format, including the manufacturer’s name, the vehicle name, the date of testing, and star ratings for both adult and child protection. The sticker will also have a QR code that, when scanned, will reveal comprehensive details of the crash test for that particular vehicle.
These include the Harrier, Safari, Nexon EV, and Punch EV. All of these models have been awarded 5-star ratings by Bharat NCAP for both adult and child occupant safety. There have been rumours that SUVs from Maruti and Hyundai have undergone BNCAP testing, although their results have not been made public yet.
To make it more convenient for the customers to understand the vehicle’s safety, the sticker will also get a QR code. This will allow the customers to get a detailed summary of the crash tests, and help them understand the model is built quality more. The Bharat NCAP was initiated last year to check the safety ratings of cars in India. Earlier, the top manufacturer used to send their top offerings to the global NCAP to get the crash test report.
The government-backed safety and build quality check entity for vehicles, Bharat Car Assessment Program (NCAP), has launched its official sticker which will be offered by the manufacturer at the time of delivery, featuring safety ratings achieved by the vehicles during the crash tests. The sticker will provide ‘first-hand information’ to the consumer about the vehicle’s safety rating, displaying the overall performance of cars during the test.
These tests are performed in the country under Bharat NCAP. Currently, multiple cars have gone through the crash test and received satisfactory ratings from the entity and very few vehicles have already achieved 5-star ratings during the crash test. The list includes Safari, Harrier, and Punch.ev, Nexon.ev and among others.
