Tata Harrier EV Scores 5-star BNCAP Safety Rating; Full Score In AOP At BNCAP Crash Tests

The electric SUV received 45 out of 49 points for child occupant protection.

The newly launched Tata Harrier EV passed the Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) crash tests with a perfect 5-star rating. The electric SUV received 45 out of 49 points for child occupant protection, while it received full points for adult occupant protection (32/32).

Although the top-spec Empowered 75 and Empowered 75 AWD models of the Harrier EV were assessed by Bharat NCAP, the tested ratings are applicable to the full Harrier EV lineup. Six airbags (seven on the Fearless and Empowered models), 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all passengers, ESC, ISOFIX anchors for the back outboard seats, and a passenger-side airbag cut-off switch are standard on the Harrier EV.

Additionally, the Harrier EV conforms to AIS-100 pedestrian safety standards. An ADAS suite is also included with the Empowered trim.

The Harrier EV is only the second SUV to receive a perfect score of 32 points in the adult occupant protection (AOP) category at the Bharat NCAP crash tests. The only other SUV with this boast is the Mahindra XEV 9e, which also happens to be the main competitor of the Harrier EV.

Another noteworthy finding is that, in contrast to other NCAP crash testing, both driver and passenger crash test dummies reported “good” protection for every body part. Additionally, it passed the side pole impact test with an “OK” rating.

The Harrier EV received 45 out of 49 points in the child occupant protection (COP) test, which is identical to the Mahindra XEV 9e. It received nine out of thirteen points in the vehicle assessment test, full points in the dynamic test (24/24) and the CRS installation test (12/12).

The three-year-old and 18-month-old child dummies were tested in rear-facing child seats that were mounted in the front passenger seat and held in place by a support leg and ISOFIX anchorages. The Harrier EV does not have an integrated child restraint system, although it does have ISOFIX anchorages on the outboard rear seats.

The combustion-powered Harrier, despite having somewhat lower AOP (30.08/32) and COP (44.54/49) values, is noteworthy for having a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP as well. The Harrier EV is Tata’s seventh car to receive a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety certification.
