BMW has unveiled the much-anticipated R 1300 GS in India, pricing the flagship adventure motorcycle starting at Rs 20.95 lakh (ex-showroom). This new model comes in five variants, each offering distinct equipment and features. Deliveries are set to begin later this month.

Variants and Features

The BMW R 1300 GS is available in Light White, Triple Black 1, Triple Black 2, Trophy, and 719 variants. These versions mainly differ in their equipment and electronic features. Notably, the Triple Black 2 variant includes dynamic suspension that lowers the bike when it stops. The top-spec 719 variant is equipped with premium features like milled levers and engine cases.

Performance and Specifications

One of the standout features of the new R 1300 GS is its weight reduction. BMW has managed to shave off 12 kgs compared to its predecessor, the 1250 GS, with significant weight savings in the gearbox area, which alone accounts for a reduction of over 6 kgs. Despite the weight loss, the R 1300 GS maintains its status as a flagship adventure motorcycle, loaded with numerous electronic aids and comfort features.

The BMW R 1300 GS, with its innovative features, significant weight reduction, and powerful new engine, is poised to redefine the adventure motorcycle segment. Offering five distinct variants, each tailored with unique equipment and advanced electronic aids, the R 1300 GS caters to a wide range of rider preferences. Competing with prominent models like the Honda Africa Twin and Ducati Multistrada V4 in India, as well as KTM’s offerings globally, this flagship bike is set to attract considerable interest from adventure enthusiasts. With deliveries commencing soon, the R 1300 GS is expected to make a substantial impact in the market.

The new R 1300 GS is powered by a 1300cc engine that produces 143bhp and 149Nm of torque. This power is managed by a new 6-speed gearbox that includes a bidirectional quickshifter. The engine retains BMW’s shift-cam technology and features a higher compression ratio than the S1000RR, enhancing its performance capabilities.

Market Competition

In India, the BMW R 1300 GS faces competition from models such as the Honda Africa Twin, Ducati Multistrada V4, and Triumph Tiger 1200. Globally, it competes with the KTM 1290 Adventure and upcoming models like the KTM 1390 and 1490 from the Austrian manufacturer.

The BMW R 1300 GS, with its advanced features, reduced weight, and powerful engine, is set to make a significant impact in the adventure motorcycle segment. Its various variants cater to different rider preferences, making it a versatile choice for adventure enthusiasts. With deliveries starting soon, the R 1300 GS is set to attract a lot of attention in the Indian market and beyond.
