Bollywood actor John Abraham is looking into launching his own line of motorcycle helmets. The actor revealed this news last week on a podcast called Deep Drive of Autocar Professional and stated that his ultimate goal is to prioritise safety.
John is a passionate motorcyclist and has a deep passion for his helmets. He is obsessed with helmets and like how people buy clothes, he buys helmets. He has already visited some top motorcycle helmet factories in Spain and Italy to get a better understanding of the manufacturing process. In the same vein, he also briefly mentioned that the helmet would prioritise comfort for all, including through the use of multiple shell sizes. The actor elaborated that he wants to do this as he finds it to be his calling.
John has always been famously connected with superbikes in India, particularly since the first of the Dhoom movies came out in the year 2004. Given India’s huge two-wheeler market as well as our troubling motorcycle safety statistics, it is easy to understand why John Abraham wishes to go down this route. There’s also the factor that he would be a highly influential voice amongst his millions of fans.
John Abraham, on many occasions has stated the importance of wearing a helmet as a safety measure. On one occasion, the actor has been seen handing-out tips to be remembered while riding a bike. Indian roads, mainly Mumbai is not very conducive for two wheelers. There are riders who don’t take any precautions and are very irresponsible. On the other hand, there are people who walk on the road without thinking and taking care. Hence, it is important to raise awareness about wearing helmets while riding a bike. The actor is regularly seen during new bike launches, conducted by Yamaha across the country.
While all this seems promising, the actor has confirmed that the final product is still a considerable time away. The premium motorcycle business in India has been rapidly growing in the past few years with multiple brands entering our market. However, recent regulation changes have made it very difficult to sell imported helmets in India unless they are locally manufactured and are certified to BIS safety norms.
