Kia PV5 EV Revealed In Two Body Styles As Brand’s First Van
The Kia PV5 was unveiled in advance before its February 27 launch at the automaker’s 2025 EV Day event. The PV5 is not only Kia’s first van, but it also serves as the prototype for the company’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV), a modular platform that will eventually give rise to all-electric multipurpose utility vehicles aimed at the residential and business markets.
There will be two body variants available for the PV5: passenger and cargo. Although their basic designs will be the same, the latter forgoes rear seats in favour of more room for luggage. The PV5 Passenger, the more consumer-facing model, has a sleek, contemporary design. The primary headlight units are positioned lower, and it has high-mounted angular LED strips up front that also serve as indicators. With a big radar sensor underneath and a front-facing camera above, the PV5’s charging connection is located in the middle of the fascia.

The PV5 Passenger’s upper half features huge glass sections and hefty side mirrors, while the lower half is surrounded by plastic body cladding. The top portion of the fenders, the bonnet, and the pillars are all blacked out. The PV5 Cargo body style has two side-opening tailgate doors, whereas the Passenger has a single lift-up boot lid.
Kia has just unveiled the exterior of the PV5, perhaps saving the full interior photos for the next EV Day. The external photos, however, provide a glimpse of the cabin, particularly the large grab handles on the A-pillars and the distinct screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster.
The Kia PV5 will primarily compete against the Volkswagen ID Buzz in international markets. Currently, it’s unclear whether Kia plans to bring the PV5 to India, but the company’s 2025 EV Day may shed more light on this. The Kia PV5 marks the brand’s entry into the electric van segment, debuting as the first model under its Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) lineup. With Passenger and Cargo variants, futuristic styling, and modular utility, it targets both private and commercial sectors. Competing with the Volkswagen ID Buzz, its global market potential will become clearer at Kia’s 2025 EV Day.
