KTM’s AMT Gearbox Will Be Unveiled On October 8,  Along With Five New Motorcycles

EICMA motorcycle show is set to return after a hiatus of five years and it is coming in with the launch of five KTM bikes. The Austrian marque has a lineup of new models waiting in the wings, important for the Indian audience are the next-gen 390 Adventure R, 390 Enduro R and the 390 SMC R. The bike portfolio is going to be expanded with new models based on the 990 as well as the big-bore 1390 platforms.

KTM’s has confirmed on what models are coming with the launch of five bikes – 390 Adventure R, 390 Enduro R and 390 SMC R along with others. The first is a traditional ADV, the second is a road-legal dualsport with 21/18-inch spoke wheels and the third model will be a supermoto with minimal bodywork, resembling the Enduro.

KTM AMT — What is it?

KTM is one of the adventure motorcycle that has been teased for its missing clutch lever and something similar for its flagship adventure motorcycle. Honda has been using a DCT gearbox for a while now and there have been many takers. Yamaha has also introduced its version of an auto gearbox with the MT-09, called the Y-AMT. BMW was one of the latest to do so with its flagship adventure motorcycle, the R 1300 GS Adventure.

Production-spec

Soon to be launched bikes will use the engine from the 1390 Super Duke R as the starting point but the chassis will see revisions to suit each model’s respective character and for ride quality. KTM is set to bring a new 8.8-inch TFT display with ‘improved UX and UI’ on all these models. These new bikes will have the same 399cc engine with a single-cylinder motor from the Gen 3 390 Duke.

The motorcycle industry is promoting the introduction of automatic gears aimed at making riding large motorcycles comfortable. Riders who have experienced the ease of riding with an AMT wants to retain it, while some prefer keeping the gears under their control with a manual gearbox.

Many motorcycle manufacturers have been promoting and popularising the launch of automatic gearboxes.  KTM’s new AMT gearbox will break cover at EICMA which will eliminate the need to have a physical clutch and gear lever.
